Samamidon & Nico Muhly

Here are a couple of gems that I recently dug up. Well, actually they're here and here.


























Sure Sam seems a little bit delirious in his video but I think most of us often find ourselves feeling similarly. I can't help but think that his expressiveness only enhances the music in "I wish I wish." In fact, it's easy for me to see a little bit of myself in Sam's peculiar character here. Feelings of eagerness and earnesty are both apparent in Amidon and I imagine that I too probably appear in a state not unlike his when struggling with such conflicting emotions.

Certainly Amidon does what he does heaps and bounds better than most other folks around but his playful mannerisms almost warrant critics not taking him seriously. I, however, think that he's worthy of praise regardless of how crazy he comes off in his frivolous home videos. As for Nico Muhly's work, there's not a whole lot I can say that will do it justice. It's simply as animated as it is frantic. Just listen.

While Muhly and Amidon's take on performing are clearly quite different, they somehow maintain to play beautifully together.
